Truelo is a rental marketplace for the Greater Montreal Area that connects renters with landlords. You can arrange in-person viewings through the platform and rent directly — no platform in the middle of payment. It's built to make renting more transparent and straightforward.

Yes. Creating an account, browsing listings, and messaging are free. Rent and the deposit are arranged directly between you and your landlord — Truelo doesn't process those payments.

Truelo doesn't handle your money. Instead, we make the process more transparent: you view the room in person and meet your landlord before you agree to anything, and you only pay once you've seen the place and chosen to rent.

Under Quebec law, a landlord cannot collect any deposit at all — not a security, damage, pet, or key deposit, and not last month's rent up front. Your first rent payment is due on your regular rent day, once you've moved in. You arrange this directly with your landlord; Truelo is not a party to the payment.

You arrange rent and any deposit directly with your landlord, off-platform. Truelo doesn't process, collect, or pay out rent — the agreement is between you and your landlord, and only after you've viewed the room in person.

Always view the room in person and meet the landlord before you pay anyone. Never send money for a room you haven't seen — that's where most rental scams happen.

Because you view the room in person before committing, you can walk away before paying anyone if it isn't what you expected. If a listing is inaccurate or a landlord behaves badly, report it to us and we'll review the listing and the landlord's account.

Your tenancy is governed by the Civil Code of Québec, and as a consumer you keep all your rights under Quebec's Consumer Protection Act. Since you pay your landlord directly, any payment dispute is between you and your landlord and can be raised with the Tribunal administratif du logement (TAL).

Most residential leases in Quebec must use the mandatory standard-form lease (bail de logement). Truelo connects you with tenants and helps you arrange viewings; your lease and rent are arranged directly with the tenant and governed by Quebec law.
